The second day (June 17) of the Discipleship Training Workshop highlights:
After a joyful breakfast at 7.30 a.m. in the basement of Chicago UBF center, we gathered in 10 Bible study groups to study I and II Samuel from 8.30 to 10.30 a.m.
P. Mark Vucekovich delivered his message entitled: "Samuel: A Spiritual Leader for God's people (I) (A Servant of God's word)"
This message taught that when Israel had no word of God, everyone did as they saw fit. There were not many visions. In such a time of darkness and of confusion, God called Samuel, a young boy. He was ready to listen to God. God raised Samuel to be a shepherd of His people. Through this message we could learn:
- The blessing of having believing parents
- The absolute necessity for the word of God
- God calls young people to be His servants
- To hear God's word to us, we must listen (clean out your ears)!
- Obey what he says
- When we listen and obey, God can speak to us and through us
After lunch, we had team-building activities and sports in Warren Park from 1 p.m. We played volleyball, basketball, tennis and some took a walk two by two.
At 4 p.m., Dr. Joseph Schafer delivered lecture III: Samuel Part II, entitled: "Samuel: A Spiritual leader for God's people (II) (A Spiritual Father of the Nation)".
We all came to grow as national-level leaders and to be spiritual fathers and mothers of our nation through learning how Samuel became a national leader and a spiritual father:
1) Samuel led his people to serve the Lord only, through getting rid of idols, committing to the Lord and serving God only.
2) Samuel led his people by intercessory prayer. He was a gifted speaker, yet he chose to pray for the people to return to God. They recognized him as a leader.
3) Samuel led the people to remember what God had done through Ebenezer, whose name means "thus far God has helped us."
4) Samuel led the nation through his circuit ministry.
5) Samuel led the nation by remaining a prayer servant, a Bible teacher and a shepherd to the end regardless of title, office or any organizational position.
Today's lunch was served by Lincoln Park UBF and at 5.30 p.m., NEIU served a delicious dinner.
At 6.30, Dr. Abraham T. Kim gave a message entitled, "Seek God first" (Matthew 6:33). He shared his experience about how God helped him to pass through the Red Sea of Ph.D work while raising 2 disciples and God's ministry when he sought God first in Oregon and later in Korea.
From 7.30 to 9.30, everybody wrote a testimony from one of the 3 lectures and shared at 11 p.m. in 10 groups. |
