Key Verse: 11:10, “In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.”

Review what God said about Assyria and its king (10:5,12–13). What did God promise to do to Assyria’s forests (10:18–19,24–25,33–34)?

In contrast, what does “the stump of Jesse” mean (11:1a; 6:13)? Who is the “shoot” and “branch” that will come from him (4:2; cf. Jer23:5; 33:15; Zech3:8; 6:12)?

How will God equip him to rule (11:2; cf. 42:1; 61:1)? In verse 2, how is the Spirit described, and what difference does it make to have this Spirit?
