Having a Real Relationship with Jesus
Part One: A New Purpose (Chapter 1)
Lesson 1: Philippians 1:1–11 (Go to ESV Bible Verses)
- Read the passage carefully several times.
- Who is writing this letter, to whom is it addressed, and what is the opening greeting (1–2)? At this time, what is Paul’s personal condition (7,12–13)?
- Note the words that show us Paul’s relationship with Christ (1a,6,8). What do these three verses reveal about a real relationship with Jesus (see also 2:1)?
- Note the words that show us Paul’s relationship with the Philippian Christians (3–5,7–8). How could he have such a relationship with them? What is his prayer for them, and why (9–11)?
- What can we learn here about how to have a closer relationship with Jesus and with others? In light of this Bible study, what one thing can you do this week?
